Well, the camping weekend was just about perfect. The campground was an hour and a half from the house and the drive was as good as it gets. Perfect weather, no winds and relatively light traffic. The campground staff was super and from the time we pulled in until we were on our site was about five minutes. THAT is the way every campground should do check-ins. Jan & Kim went to the office after we set up the camper. Kevin's wallet took a ding on that trip to "Check in".
We had some pretty good wind Saturday night which made having a campfire just a little too risky, but we survived. Of course, by then we had dined on chicken, steaks and steamed shrimp, baked potatoes and salad and had consumed a few adult beverages before during and after the feast. We could sit outside by the fire (before we decided to put it out because of the wind that kicked up) and listen to the Nationwide Series race on the radio and the sound of late models racing at Port Royal Speedway. The speedway is located about 3 or 4 miles from the campground and the wind carried the sound. Next trip, we'll go racin'.
When Kevin said he was going to Iraq everyone wanted pictures of camels and stuff. Kim said all she wanted was a Harley shirt. Well, Brother Kevin sent one to Karen for his sister. Karen gave it to Jan and we took it camping and were waiting for Kevin to call. For one reason or another, the one time Jan wanted her phone to ring, the call went to voice mail. Sorry Kev, we really wanted to hear your voice. So, Jan gave the shirt to Kim, who to say the least, was surprised. Here are a couple of photos we thought Kevin would want to see.
