Going Camping

After having the RV in storage since we moved into the house in October of 2007, it is time to get it out again. We got Pennsylvania tags on it, got it inspected and brought it to the house for some maintenance. It is now plugged into the new 30 AMP power supply outside, and hooked up to water. Washing the outside and cleaning and re-stocking the inside remain to do.

So far, all of the systems seem to work as they did before, so that is good news. The fresh water tank is sanitized, the electrical system works as it should and Directv re-activated the receivers so we'll have TV.

Jan and I along with Kim and Kevin will be taking off Friday 8 May for a camping weekend. I think all of us are looking forward to getting away, even if it is just for a weekend. This will be different because the camper will be a purely Recreational Vehicle as opposed to being our house as it formerly was. The thing will no longer be 2,000 pounds over the legal weight, so hopefully fuel economy will improve just a tiny bit. We're only putting in the RV what we'll need for the weekend, nothing more.

All of us are looking forward to getting there Friday, setting up, starting a campfire, cracking a cold one and kicking back for a nice weekend. Oh yeah, firing up the grill is right at the top of the list too. Friday will be simple -hamburgers and all that stuff. Saturday will be steaks, chicken, baked potatoes, salad and steamed shrimp. Then there will be the breakfasts made outside as they should be.

Now, all we need is a little help from Mother Nature.

Justin always said what we do isn't camping, but I am too old to sleep on the ground in a tent. Besides, I haven't figured out how to mount a satellite dish on a tent, and the 27" TV in the living room of the camper would take up too much room if we moved it into the tent with us.
